Jiawen Chen

Guzheng

CHEN Jiawen is an artistic Zheng (Chinese plucked-string instrument) enthusiast who strives for perfection in every scenario she encounters. Her passion towards Zheng started at the age of 5 where she was taught by guzheng virtuosos namely Ms Huang Jiangqin from The Southern Song and Dance Troupe, Professor Luo Dezai from Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Professor Li Meng, Ji Wei and Yuan Sha from Central Conservatory of Music and Ms Yang Yang from National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts.

With diligence and drive, she was awarded with outstanding performance awards and scholarships in her secondary studies at The Music School Attached to Xinghai Conservatory and a full scholarship in her Bachelor of Music (Honours) programme at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, which she then graduated with first honours in 2022. She is currently studying her first year of the Master of Music programme majoring in Zheng at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the supervision of Professor Xu Lingzi.

Throughout her time at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, her talents and skill has granted her solo opportunities in numerous academy concerts. In 2019, she was selected to play the concerto "Blue Heaven Overture" in the crossover concert with Hsin Chu Youth Chinese Orchestra "Academy Chinese Music Gala 2019" conducted by Liu Chiang-pin. In 2022, she participated in the "Concerto Feast 2022" concert as a Zheng soloist for the piece "King LanLing".

Furthermore, Jiawen has competed and achieved gold awards in many competitions such as "The First Guangdong Chinese National Instrumental Music Competition Professional Solo Group Guzheng", "The 4th International Youth Guzheng Competition Youth Professional Solo Group" and "The Sixth International Guzheng Competition Guzheng Ensemble".
