Gabriel Ma

Gabriel Ma has performed in a potpourri of opera performances, both in fully-staged productions and opera scenes in concert, including: Nadir in Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles; Eisenstein in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus; Tamino and Monostatos in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte; Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro; and in Verdi’s La Traviata; Bizet’s Carmen; Britten’s Peter Grimes; and Donizetti’s La fille du regiment. He has sung in the Saarburger Serenaden Music Festival Germany and the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar (LOSW) and is currently a Young Artist with Hong Kong Grand Opera (HKGO) under the tutelage of Mr. Dong-jian Gong.
A graduate of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (JSoM), Ma pursued his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music in Vocal Performance under Professor Carlos Montané, with an outside field in Choral Conducting. He also earned a second Master’s degree in Arts Administration from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA). His other teachers and coaches are Professor Chen Ming Kong and Mr. Piotr Wiśniewski.
Recent concert works and special projects include selections from Schumann’s Dichterliebe; duets from Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Gondoliers at Tai Kwun; The NEXT SHOW (不日騷) — a multi-disciplinary performance marrying contemporary dance with singing curated by Ms. Frederique Decombe and supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Ma also serves as the Choir Conductor at the Vienna Boys Choir Music Academy’s (VBCMA) and the St. Francis’ Canossian School. He has recently conducted the VBCMA’s Academy Concert Choir at The Austrian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong & Macau events and the Hope Through Music Children’s Choir (VBCMA outreach programme) at Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park.
Ma is an Associate Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
