Viola CHEUNG was awarded the Best Student from Concentration Studies Scholarship upon her graduation of Associate of Art in Music Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013. She is now spending her final year on the Bachelor of Art in Music at HKBU, majoring in voice. Cheung studies singing with Ms. Chan Siu Kwan, piano with Ms. Grace Lau and percussion with Ms. Rebecca Ng.
Cheung has intense passion in operatic singing. She also enjoys a wide range of repertoire and singing experiences. She participated in masterclasses given by Lynne Dawson, Frans Huijts, Dwight Coleman, Richard Armstrong and Stephen Ng. Cheung also performed in the Opera Hong Kong Chorus, Cantoría Hong Kong, SingFest Youth Chorus, Hong Kong Festival Voices and Die Jungen Konzertisten. As a member of the Cantoria, she participated in workshops with renowned choirs such as the Philippine Madrigal Singers and The 24, and completed a recording project for the Chinese vocal anthology published by Edition Peter with conductor Dr. John Winzenburg.
Cheung was the prize winner of Music Festivals and singing competitions and the recipient of scholarships such as the Hong Kong Children’s Choir Scholarship, Best Student from Concentration Studies (HKBU), Talent Development Scholarship and Reaching Out Award. In 2014, she received scholarship from the university to join the Europe Study Tour to Italy and Switzerland and studied Renaissance Art.
