Sherri LUN, piano
Sherri is a 17-year-old pianist. She is now studying Secondary 5 at Diocesan Girls’ School in Hong Kong. Sherri started her first piano lesson at the age of 4. She was admitted to the Junior Music Program of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a major in piano at the age of 7 and studied with Ms Hui Ling.
Sherri has won prizes in major national and international competitions. They include the Second Prize of the Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians (Zhuhai), First Prize and the Best Performance of F. Chopin Ballade in the ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition (Malaysia), the First Prize of the Steinway and Sons International Youth Piano Competition (Beijing), the Second Prize of the Xinghai Cup Piano Competition (Beijing), and the Bronze Prize of the Chopin International Piano Competition in ASIA (Japan). She was also a finalist of the Aarhus International Piano Competition (Denmark).
Sherri won multiple prizes in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and other local competitions, including the champion of the Tom Lee Piano Ensemble Award and the first runner-up of the Piano Solo Junior Exhibition Award. She also received First Prizes of the Hong Kong-International Piano Open Competition, the Hong Kong Youth Barclampory Music Festival, the Hong Kong – Asia Piano Competition, and the Claude Debussy Prize of the Hong Kong Music Competition for Young Pianists. Her performance at the “Yes I Can Recital” program was broadcasted by the Radio Television Hong Kong. As a winner of the Diocesan Girls’ School Concerto competition, Sherri was selected to perform piano concerto with its Symphony Orchestra in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. She was awarded the High Scorer of the Year from Trinity College London for her LTCL piano recital in 2017. In 2019, she was invited as part of the Young Talent Series to perform in a salon recital organized by the Chopin Society of Hong Kong.
In 2013, Sherri was selected as a Young Scholar of Lang Lang International Music Foundation. She performed piano concerto with the Midwest Young Artists at the Ravinia Music Festival and Millennium Park in Chicago in 2014 and 2015. The Chicago Tribune praised her performance for “tackling the bruising finale with pinpoint clarity and convincing bravura, while the lighter moments danced with an impish joy that brought the audience to their feet after the final bars.”
Sherri participated in the Lang Lang Summer Music Summit and performed in Foundation Louis Vuitton, Paris. Besides, she took part in the 2016 Beijing International Music Festival & Academy and the Frost Chopin Academy in Miami in 2018. Most recently, she was a participant of the International Summer Academy at Universitat Mozarteum Salzburg and was selected to perform in Wiener Saal of Stiftung Mozarteum. She has played for numerous artists in masterclasses, including Gary Graffman, Arie Vardi, Philippe Entremont, Andrea Bonatta, Aquiles Delle Vigne, Leslie Howard, Kevin Kenner, Dang Thai Son, Katarzyna Popowa Zydron, Leonel Morales, Margarita Schevchenko, Graham Scott, Pavel Nersessian, Yoshikazu Nagai and Lang Lang.
In addition to playing piano, Sherri was the principal violist of the HKAPA Junior Symphony Orchestra, the String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra in her secondary school. She achieved distinction in both her ATCL and LTCL viola recital. As a chamber musician, she formed her own piano quartet and string quartet, winning top prizes in the string ensemble and piano ensemble categories in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. The string quartet was invited to play in a masterclass for Quatuor Zaide organized by the First Initiative Foundation. They also performed at the Hong Kong Government House for the Chief Executive of Hong Kong.
