Colette LAM, soprano
Hong Kong Born Soprano Colette Wing Wing Lam has appeared as Marie in La fille du regiment (Musica Viva), Gilda in Rigoletto (Musica Viva), Violetta in La traviata (Musica Viva), Juliet in Romeo et Juliet (Opera Hong Kong and Musica Viva), Norina in Don pasquale, Frasquita in Carmen (Musica Viva), Gianetta in L’elisir d’Amore (Musica Viva), Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte (Opera Hong Kong), also Romilda in Serse under the baton of François Xavier Roth, and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas during her studies in HKAPA. Other European Operatic appearances include Papagena (cover Pamina) in Die Zauberflöte in Zeist, Netherlands, Amina in La sonnambula (Brent Opera) in London and Rosina in Il barbiere di siviglia (Opera Lyrica) in Oxford.
Her major concert credits include Mahler’s Symphony No.2 in Colston Hall, Bristol, Shostakovich’s 7 Romances on Verses by Alexander Blok in RAM, London, Schnittke’s Requiem and Bach Cantata No.139 in Macau, Schumann’s Dichterliebe in Taipei, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Orff’s Carmina Burana with Hong Kong Bach Choir, soloist in New Year Concert Tour with Kent Sinfonia, U.K., Opera Gala in Millennium Centre, Cardiff. Colette has also début numerous new compositions and given song recitals in Sadler’s Wells Theatre and Westminster Abbey, London, also in Zeist, Netherland, Singapore, Macau and Hong Kong.
Colette Lam obtained her BMus (Hons) at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Michael Rippon Memorial Scholarship and Jacky Chan Charitable Fund. Upon completion of the Master of Music in Voice (Prep-opera Course) and Dissertation at the Royal Academy of Music, London on a full scholarship by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, she obtained another Master Degree in Advanced Vocal Studies (Opera) with Distinction at Wales International Academy of Voice, Cardiff on the Li Po Chun Professional training and Postgraduate Scholarship. During the courses of her studies, she had sung in master classes that were held by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Josephone Barstow, Dame Ann Murray, Nelly Miricioiu, Conductor Richard Bonygne, Barbara Bonney, Joseph Rouleau, Edith Bers, Francesca Patanè, Peter Edelmann, Gerhard Kahry, and Malcolm Martineau. Colette has recently awarded a scholarship from Fondation Michelle in Luxemburg to participate and perform in Barbara Fritolli’s Master Class.
Besides being an active performer, Colette has been giving voice coaching and singing lesson in Arise Music, Aria Academy of Music, Baron School of Music and Hong Kong Treble Choir. She also has been receiving training in HANDLE Institute U.K. and ISBT Bowen therapy training in Hong Kong and teaching students who have special needs.
