Born in Hong Kong, Wai Yin WONG started her piano lesson at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts at the age of five as a Junior student with Professor Hui Ling and Gabriel Kwok. In 2013, Wai yin obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from the Academy with First Class Honors and was awarded a full scholarship by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund to pursue her Master Degree at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University under Prof. Boris Slutsky, Head of the Keyboard Department. She also holds an Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music.

Wong has been the recipient of many international awards she was the youngest First Prize Winner of the Southern Highlands International Piano Competition in Australia together with a Special Prize in Best Performance of Chopin Etudes; Second Prize Winner of the 17th Hilton Head International Piano Competition in USA; the “Guiomar Novaes Award” in the BNDES International Piano Competition of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The youngest Gold Medal winner in the 7th International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz held in Ukraine, together with five Special Prizes, including “Special Character and Creativity in playing”, “Best Performance with Orchestra”, “Best Performance of a Work by a Ukraine Composer”.  She is also the winners of Ettlingen International Piano Competition in Germany; Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, UK; International Chopin Piano Competition in Japan. Asian Youth Music Competition and Asia Piano Open Competition.

Wong has given numerous recitals in places including solo recital at the 39th Hong Kong Arts Festival, the opening recital of the Newport International Festival in USA, Brisbane, Canberra, Bowral, Paris , Cairo, New York, Washington D.C. , Chicago, Macau, Taiwan, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shantou. She has also collaborated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Macao Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, Canberra Symphony Orchestra in Australia, Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra in USA, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in Kiev, the New Haifa Symphony Orchestra in Israel, Shantou Symphony Orchestra in China and with the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra for several times as a featured soloist on concert tours to Lincoln Centre in New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Corvallis, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Singapore and Kuala Lumpar which have won her great acclaim.

Wong was awarded the Robert H.N. Ho family Foundation Scholarship and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship for studying at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 2011, she received the Hong Kong Asian Cultural Council Scholarship which enabled her to study at the Aspen Music Summer School. She will receive the Lady Fung Music Fellowship by the Hong Kong Asian Cultural Council again in 2015 to support her further study. She was awarded the Certificate of Commendation by the Hong Kong Government in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the promotion of international arts and culture activities in 2006.
