Jacky Wong, Piano Solo and Conductor
First in Asia and Australia to conduct the complete Beethoven piano concertos from keyboard, Jacky Wong graduated from the Department of Music at the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Australia, where he received Master’s degrees in conducting and piano performance under the tutelage of Imre Palló. He has also studied under Kenneth Kiesler, the Professor of Conducting at the University of Michigan in the United States, during the masterclass of the Conductors Retreat at Medomak.
Wong has been the Assistant Conductor of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. While in Australia, he was the Music Director of the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra and has conducted the Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra, Beecroft Orchestra and Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra and Choir. He served as assistant conductor to Imre Palló in the production of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Wong has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras in Hong Kong and Australia. His repertoire includes the complete Beethoven piano concertos, concertos by Mozart, Chopin and Rachmaninov, as well as the Yellow River Piano Concerto. He was the winner of the Australian Society for Keyboard Music (ASKM) Gold Coast Open Piano Competition and the Hong Kong – Asia Piano Open Competition. He is also the regular accompanist for Australian flutist Jane Rutter, with whom he works frequently on concert tours in Australia. Wong is currently the Chief Conductor of Guangxi Symphony Orchestra.
