Born in Macao, Ray Chi-hang LONG received his early musical training from Miss Lilik Juniwatie Sutiono and the renowned English pianist Jeremy Carter. After winning several 1st prizes and being award the ‘Most Talented Prize’ in the 21st contest of the Macao Young Musician Competition, he was admitted to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as a junior student under the guidance of Professor Gabriel Kwok, keyboard department head of the Academy with scholarships from the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Foundation of the Macao S.A.R and the Academy.
Ray has graduated from the Bachelor (Honours) degree at the Royal College of Music with first class honour and been continuing to study the Master of Performance there with Professor Ruth Nye, with scholarships from the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Foundation of the Macao S.A.R and the College. He has been awarded as the RCM scholar, the Polonski scholar and the Croucher Foundation Hong Kong Scholar from the College, and the Fellow of the Trinity College of Music.
Ray has won a number of prizes and awards among international competitions such as the Second Prize and the Brighton Youth Orchestra Trust Discretionary Awards of the Brighton and Hove Performing Arts Festival in the United Kingdom, the ‘Most Distinguished Performer’ Awards in the IBLA Grand Prize in Italy, the Third Prize in the 2nd Thailand Mozart International Competition and the Second Prize in the 71st Germany Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition.
Ray has performed in the major cities in China and Europe, including as a young soloist in the 17th Macao Arts Festival. He is one of the major representatives in the College, performing in various music festivals, of which were globally broadcasted on Internet. He has also been working as a soloist with the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra since childhood, of which their performances include the Mozart Piano Concertos and the famous Chinese Concerto ‘Yellow River’. He has also collaborated with the Brighton Youth Orchestra in the United Kingdom in 2014. Ray has just given a piano recital in the 29th Macao International Music Festival.
