LI Yang, soprano
Born in Harbin, Chinese soprano Li Yang is a highly versatile singer who embraces a wide range of repertoire and operatic roles. She is currently a Young Artist of Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artists Development Scheme and Shenzhen Youth Opera Centre.
In recent years, she has sung Papagena (Die Zauberflöte); Micaëla (Carmen) ; Liù (Turandot); Gerhilde (Die Walküre); Silver Pearl (The Impresario) ; Alison (The Wandering Scholar) ; and Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) ; Stephano (Romeo et Juliette); Jinzi (The Savage Land) ; Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) ; Tatyana in Eugene Onegin; as well as the title role of L’incoronazione di Poppea, The Cunning Little Vixen, Anna (The Merry Widow).
Li’s other operatic credits include: Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Mimì (La bohème), Cio-cio-san (Madama Butterfly), Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Frasquita (Carmen), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana) and the title role of Aida.
In the concert stage, she has been a featured soprano soloist in Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, and Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen. Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Vivaldi’s Gloria in D, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
She will be singing Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica) with OHK on this August.
Wei-En Hsu, piano
Winner of the 2010 Los Angeles International Liszt Piano Competition, Mr. Wei-En Hsu is now having a busy performing career throughout the States, Europe, and Asia. In recent years, Mr. Hsu has established himself as an early music specialist in Baroque opera and the art of recitative for pianists. At the same time, he has worked closely with living composers in his generation in promoting new music.
He is the Founder/Music Director for Pocket Opera of New York, Executive Director for Metropolitan International Music Festival, Founding Board Member for Vital Opera, Artistic Director for More than Musical [HK], and the Artistic Director for Shenzhen Youth Opera Centre.
A graduate of the Juilliard School, Mr. Wei-En Hsu is an accomplished pianist, organist, conductor, repetiteur and composer. A native of Taiwan, he received his BFA degree in Piano at Taipei National University of the Arts, and was pleased to be the only candidate at Juilliard selected to Royal Academy of Music, London as an exchange student.
Starting September 2012, Mr. Hsu takes the repetiteur position at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Recently, he has been awarded the 2017 Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for his contribution to the music profession.
