Event Detail
The Groove Wind Quintet is a Hong Kong-based wind quintet formed in 2014 comprised of flautist Cheung Ching Ming, clarinetist Eric Man, oboist Sophie Mok, bassoonist Tiffany Au and Dennis Tsui on French horn. They are graduates from Amsterdam Conservatory, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Hong Kong Baptist University, University of Colorado Boulder and Utrecht Conservatorium. Members of the group have enriched ensemble performance experience, and have worked with many Hong Kong’s leading orchestras including the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, and Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.
In February 2015, GWQ was invited as guest performers in Hong Kong Baptist University’s Alumni Concert. In summer 2015, the quintet was the only Hong Kong wind quintet invited to perform in the International Double Reed Society Conference in Tokyo, Japan. Earlier this year in June, the group held its sold-out recital at Li Hall, St John’s Cathedral, as an associated project of Le French May, playing an all-French music program. Subsequently the group also performed at this year’s Airport Proms, an extensive 7-days marathon on Classical and Jazz music, as young ambassadors of the city.
The Quintet is enthusiastic about bringing chamber music to wide range of audiences. Apart from performing in concert hall, the group also engage with local schools and churches where they can communicate closely with the community. Groove Quintet aspires to introduce the beauty of wind repertories and wind quintet music from different periods to Classical and non-Classical music lovers.
